Mountain Creek

Available on ArtByUs.com.

The sunlight was shimmering on the water and rocks this afternoon on the creek that borders our property in Sky Valley. A beautiful blue-sky day can be seen in the water reflection. The paint surface is a heavy impasto with a shimmering mix of color dabs that blend together at a few feet of distance.

5" X 7" Oil on panel.

Nice job catching the reflections in the water. I like the thick paint, this painting has a lot of substance for such a simple subject.

Thanks Christina. Your right about the thick paint. It is even more heavily textured in person from the wet into wet technique.

I paint a good deal from life, and one of my favorite (well...shall we call it stunts...) is to stand above the rocks of a falls looking down or up and paint. It is quite exhilarating and often not for the feint of heart to attempt to paint not just moving water...but RUSHING water!!! hahahaa...

You did a nice job here...capturing some good energy, and not overstating nor understating...!

Thanks for the comment, Larry.

I have often wondered how well a painting close to falls would work. I know that photography rarely does it justice. I visited Yosemite this year in May and saw an awesome display, but the photos don't match it.
